ABOUT
In a world burdened with enormous problems ranging from climate change to political and economic instability, I believe it is more important than ever to create objects and safe spaces where people can enjoy the present moment. Inspired by organic forms in nature, nostalgia for childhood, and Japanese popular culture, I design objects that are whimsical, playful and, in most cases, functional. I have experience working with a variety of materials including wood, plastics, ceramics and metals. I often take on complicated technical challenges and enjoy probleming solving. For instance, transforming rigid materials such as wood and metal into rounded, softened forms, using steam, heat, welding and other technologies. I love learning new techniques that enable me to explore the uses of different materials in surprising and unpredictable ways. I liken my own creative process to the curiosity of a young child who through play discovers new possibilities. A guiding principle for my design process is to create objects that delight the user and help them to get as much joy out of everyday moments as possible.
